Kinetika was commissioned to make two giant puppets to represent all school children – one boy and one girl. It rained heavily and for a moment we thought the puppets would have to wear their giant rain ponchos in front of the queen. But the sun came out for the parade, the ponchos came off, and the live broadcast looked fabulous with the thousands of charity participants in their bright colours.
10,000 ticket holders lined the Mall as we paraded towards Buckingham Palace along with the Gruffalo. At 4pm we joined thousands of people singing Happy Birthday to Her Majesty and then paraded back around St James’ Park.
Huge thanks to The Patron’s Lunch for inviting us to take part and looking after us all so well on the day. They have been kind enough to let us keep the puppets, and are now available for hire.
Massive thanks also go to the make team, led by the talented Tony Mason, and the puppeteers from Smoking Apples.
