Kinetika People developed a programme of community activity for two launch events to support the opening of the London Designer Outlet in Brent during November 2013 to April 2014.
The aim was to encourage local community, residents and workers to visit the new development, to feel part of it, proud of it, and generate a sense of local ownership.
We wanted to celebrate the diverse demographic and culturally rich borough in which the outlet is located, and create a unique experience by devising a year round calendar of activities and events to appeal to a wide range of local people, as well as to encourage day trippers and tourists.
We worked throughout the summer of 2013 on a Diwali-inspired launch event – The Sitare Festival which took place on 2 November 2013. Making workshops engaged150 school children from Kingsbury High Secondary School, Lyon Park Junior School, Mount Stewart Junior School in Wembley who created costumes, mobiles and headdresses for the event. We also worked with dance groups KSPARK and First Impressions from Brent to create spectacular performances for the Sitare Parade.
The celebrations returned to the outlet in March for the Spring Festival 2014.
