“An internationally renowned company, with a great track record of developing artists and inspiring communities.” Andrea Stark (Chief Executive, High House Production Park)

Kinetika is an internationally renowned company, specialising in creating large-scale hand-painted silks. We have a 22-year track record of combining world-class design with community projects to produce spectacular outdoor commissions that engage diverse audiences wherever we work.

Founded by artistic director Ali Pretty in 1997, and inspired by her training in carnival arts in Trinidad and India, Kinetika now has an unrivalled reputation for working with local communities on projects that change the way people feel about where they live from local community walks in Essex to ceremonial boulevards and local high streets across the UK, to the Great Wall of China and the heart of Kolkata.

The charitable arm, Kinetika People, is known for its high-quality community engagement work, running participatory programmes, workshops and artist training schemes, which aim to nurture new artistic talent and engage communities, raising aspirations and building a sense of place.

The commercial arm, Kinetika Design Studio, has been commissioned to create bespoke silks for ceremonies at high profile events including Atlanta Olympics 1996, FIFA World Cup 2009, Milan Expo 2015, The Royal Opera House Deloitte Festival 2015.

In order to strengthen and support this work, we wish to recruit new voluntary charity Trustees.

We are particularly looking for Trustees:

  • To advise on environmental sustainability
  • To represent the diverse communities of Thurrock, this might be a local community activist.
  • To advise on marketing and branding, ideally with commercial experience.
  • We are also looking for a young person to join our Board (over 18).

We are interested to hear from people with other areas of expertise too,  especially those who can support our work in community engagement and placemaking.

Expectations of Trustees:

  • Regular attendance and contributions to our quarterly board meetings and annual away day.
  • Acting as a sounding board for our staff and sharing individual areas of expertise.
  • Feeding into the business planning process and policy development to ensure Kinetika is operating strategically and legally.
  • Assisting with annual Arts Council evaluation and funding applications.
  • Supporting us to find new sources of income and feeding into the development of our fundraising strategy.
  • Bringing a range of connections from the wider artistic and business communities.

Board papers are emailed in advance of meetings and preparation prior to the meeting is expected. We will also encourage trustees to provide additional time to support specific tasks or initiatives and to provide a sounding board to the staff and other board members.

Meetings are normally at our studios at High House Production Park in Purfleet, Essex but sometimes are in central or east London.

Travel expenses to and from meetings can be claimed and refreshments are provided.

We believe it is vital trustees see our artistic work and encourage them to represent the company at networking and other events. You can find more information on the company and its current work at
