About the Kinetika Bloco

In its largest shows Kinetika Bloco sees no less than one hundred young performers take you by storm with their unique new British Carnival sound. Brass, strings, percussion, dance, flashes of colour and streaks of virtuoso exuberance combine in a roof-raising extravaganza with a decidedly London edge.

The Kinetika Bloco draws its influences from some of the world’s most musical cultures: Trinidad and the Caribbean, Brazil, West and Southern Africa, India and New Orleans. Their catchy songs offer an exhilarating snapshot of the UK’s diversity, with inspiration taken from traditional folk music, Jamaican club classics, afrobeat and even the grime scene.

The Kinetika Bloco represented London as part of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Cultural Festival, and has also performed at the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad launch, London Jazz Festival, Kings Cross St Pancras Eurostar Opening, Thames Festival, Baishakhi Mela, Queen Elizabeth Hall in the Southbank Centre and at the Unveiling of the Nelson Mandela Statue at Parliament Square.

Said the Thames Festival’s Kitty Ross: “The Kinetika Bloco are a fantastically dedicated and impressive group of young musicians and performers who have become a permanent and much anticipated fixture at the Thames Festival both on stage and in the Carnival. We look forward to welcoming them back in 2008 with brand new costumes and music to once again wow the crowds!“

The instruments you’ll see played by Kinetika Bloco are: clarinet, baritone sax, alto sax, tenor sax, soprano sax, trumpet, trombone, flute, tuba, french horn, sousaphone, violin and electric guitar.

The musicians and dancers are tutored by the following professionals: Mat ox, Andy Grappy, Claude Deppa, Sian Macdonald (brass), Sam Agard (drums);  Leon Hazlewood, Jeanefer Jean-Charles, Tony Isles (choreography).
